Description
Basmati rice is a type of long-grain rice that is commonly grown in the Himalayas, India, and Pakistan. Literally translated as ‘the fragrant one’, Basmati has been described as having the aroma of sun-baked wood and flowers. It is characterized by a light nutty flavor and floral aroma, and it’s popular in rice pilaf/pulav and as a side dish for curry. Basmati rice comes in two varieties, white and brown. Both have a nutty taste and a distinct smell. White basmati, however, is more processed. The hull, bran, and germ are all removed.
Benefits :
Basmati is gluten-free and low in fat.
It contains all eight essential amino acids, folic acid, and is very low in sodium, and has no cholesterol.
Basmati has a low to medium glycemic index, meaning that energy is released at a slower, steadier rate leading to a more balanced level of energy, which makes it a good option for people with diabetes.
Additionally, it contains soluble fiber which adds bulk and helps move waste along the digestive tract .
